A quick, natural-looking, and affordable “fix” for gaps, chips, and other imperfections with dental bonding

At Let’s Smile Dental, Dr. Imran Ahmed and our associates never sleep when it comes to their commitment to advanced and gentle dentistry in New York City. We offer dental bonding as a non-invasive, cost-effective, and fast way to improve the appearance of cosmetic imperfections dramatically.

Bonding for gaps

Some patients have had gaps between their teeth for as long as they can remember. Habits in early childhood, such as persistent thumb-sucking, can lead to developmental issues. There may also be anatomical reasons to blame for gaps and uneven spacing, for instance, discrepancies between the size of the jaws and the teeth. Other patients may find a small space has grown over time or that they have new gaps. Teeth tend to drift as we get older. But gum disease and other oral conditions that require restorative care may also be to blame.

If our dentists determine that your teeth and gums are healthy, dental bonding may be just the “fix” that you need. A pliable material (composite resin) is matched to the color of the surrounding teeth. So, it blends in seamlessly in your smile. The resin is applied to the teeth and shaped by your dentist to cover extra spaces between the teeth. The material is bonded or secured to the front surfaces of the affected teeth.

This same basic principle can be used to disguise other cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Teeth that are shaped irregularly
  • Worn teeth that appear overly short
  • Chipped teeth
  • Minor fractures
  • Very discolored or stained teeth, which don’t respond well to whitening methods

Patients appreciate that, in addition to the smile boost that they get from bonding, their teeth are generally healthier after treatment. Chips can be indicative of enamel erosion. The bonded material can strengthen the tooth. Additionally, teeth that are evenly spaced tend to be easier to clean. Less food becomes trapped in-between spaces. Also, treatment can be completed in one visit. No enamel has to be removed for the procedure. So, it is conservative and tooth-preserving. It is also well-tolerated (no anesthetic is necessary because it is not associated with sensitivity or pain). Bonding is also less costly upfront than porcelain veneers.
