Our precision veneers are a long-lasting and versatile fix for many cosmetic conditions

At Let’s Smile Dental in New York, New York, we appreciate that many of the smiles our patients admire grace celebrity faces or at least faces that are familiar to the general public. Our patients often don’t realize that the teeth gracing those famous faces were crafted to look “perfect” with a popular dental treatment: veneers.

Veneers explained

Veneers are thin layers of dental material, typically porcelain. This type of dental ceramic is coveted for its ability to mimic the properties of natural tooth enamel. It is also known for its resiliency and ability to resist stains.

Dr. Imran Ahmed and our associates perfectly design the ceramic. We use advanced technologies, such as a precision cone beam CT scanner, to collect as much information about your mouth as possible. This info is then used to inform the planning and design of each veneer.

After the veneer is fabricated, it is secured to the front surfaces of the teeth. In turn, veneers cover-up or disguise a range of imperfections, including:

  • Gaps
  • Uneven spacing (to give the appearance of straighter teeth)
  • Chips
  • Other surface imperfections
  • Small cracks
  • Irregularly-shaped teeth
  • Sizing irregularities; for instance, short or worn teeth

Since the veneer fits over the natural tooth, a small amount of enamel is shaved off. So, the veneer fits nicely over the tooth. Precision-fit veneers feel natural and look natural – they don’t jut out too much or look oversized for your mouth. The porcelain is also “prepared” to your unique specifications and goals. That involves, in part, matching the veneer’s color to the surrounding teeth or other facial characteristics if you desire lighter teeth. The process usually takes two visits.

Candidates for veneers

First, our dentists assess the health of your teeth and gums. Patients with underlying oral disease will require restorative treatment. Likewise, patients with more moderate spacing issues may benefit from orthodontic options such as Invisalign®.

Second, veneers come in different forms. Dental bonding is sometimes referred to as “direct veneers.” A composite resin material is prepared and applied directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. Your dentist shapes the resin to cover up the conditions listed above. This process can be completed in a single visit without the removal of any tooth enamel. Direct veneers are also a more affordable alternative to porcelain veneers, also called indirect veneers, because they are made outside of the mouth (in a lab).

However, porcelain veneers may be a better value for you. Porcelain is highly durable and can last many years with proper care. We are happy to discuss your options for smile enhancement during an appointment. Please call (212) 404-7010 to book your visit.

Veneers are thin handcrafted porcelain shields worn on the front of the tooth which improve the appearance of teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained or worn. Veneers are thin as contact lenses, and are an aesthetically pleasing option of closing gaps, lengthening teeth, and providing symmetry to make your smile more natural. Veneers are intended to last for many years without changing color. They are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Ask your dentist if veneers may be right for you.
